What are you doing today to make yourself a better you? Are you interested in starting a new hobby? Want to play an instrument? Learn to dance? Drop two pant sizes? Do you know what the steps in any successful goal planning really are? If you are that mythical person that can set a goal and without planning make that goal a reality then good for you, don’t bother to read on. However if you’re like the rest of us then goal planning and success take a little more time and effort. This is the basic process for goal planning: decide on a goal that motivates you, write it down, share it with others, BREAK IT DOWN into measurable increments, plan your first step, and celebrate your wins. We often overwhelm ourselves by making nebulous goals like, “I want to lose weight” or “I want to learn a new skill,” but then we don’t do the steps necessary to make those goals a reality. Here at Focus Fitness, our mission everyday is to help you with those fitness and nutrition goals you set for yourself and your success is our ultimate objective.
To that end, we are happy to officially announce the integration of the IntelaMetrix Ultrasound Body Mass Measurement System (say that 3 times fast!) to our fitness programs. We’ve already incorporated the device into a handful of member’s exercise programs and have them utilizing compatible nutrition applications, such as My Fitness Pal, in order to maximize results. “You’ve got to think about your fitness goals the way you would your financial goals,” Dave says, “You balance your budget, you know what your deposits and withdrawals are, and you keep your accounts healthy by knowing where you stand every day. Nutrition and fitness work in the same way. To be successful, you know what goes in your body as well as what your output is.”
Having tools available to assist in tracking your progress is essential. Once you’ve decided on your fitness objective and broken it down to what that means to you then taking advantage of the easy tools is simply a matter of implementation. For example, if your goal is, “I would really like to lose 10-15 pounds” you would look at what the steps are to make that a reality. First, look at your diet. What are you eating everyday? Don’t know? This is where a tracking system, like My Fitness Pal comes into play. Knowing what goes in your mouth is definitely the most important part of successful weight loss. That does include the splash of half ‘n half that goes in your coffee or the package of 100 Calorie cookies you snacked on in your car.
Diet change is usually the most daunting part of a weight loss program and where people fall victim to what Zig Ziglar would call “stinking thinking.” You mess up on a meal and eat that pint of ice cream in your freezer while binge watching Netflix? Don’t just quit on your goals because you failed one time. Start back the next day strong with your goals fresh in your mind and do better the next day. If we quit every time we slip, then we’ll never reach those goals. An important thing to keep in mind is that fitness is a lifelong journey and not just a point we hit and then stop. If you can make most of your days successes then you are well on your way to victory.
The next step is having a real understanding of your starting point to keep your goals measurable. What is your real current weight? What are your measurements? Dave can help you with the new Intelametrix Body Mass Measurement System to know what your base point is and keep track of it regularly through your visits to Focus Fitness. He will make you an exercise program created exclusively for you based on your fitness level, your fitness goals, and your overall health, both structural and mental to achieve you becoming the best you possible. That’s what functional fitness is all about; you working smarter and not harder to most effectively reach your goals.
Want to know the best part of reaching those milestones towards success? Rewarding yourself! Don’t forget to set up rewards in advance so that when you do reach the next accomplishment in your progress you have something to look forward to. Try not to make your rewards food based. Instead make it fun like a new experience or an upgrade somewhere in your life. Go see a show, get that new record, or heck, have a new professional portrait taken.
Is it still daunting to start? Come in for a consultation. That is exactly why we are here, to help you get motivated and get moving. He can help you with getting the tools setup, getting a diet plan in place and keep you motivated with his encouraging style. Don’t wait to start! You can do it, y’all! We’ll see you at the gym!
